Hello everybody today we’re going to be talking about the top fin 5-gallon tank kit. So I picked this tank up at pet smart it’s not for me, I got this for my grandma as a Christmas present because she told me that she wanted a tank so that was awesome and I figured a five-gallon was just about the perfect size for her.
But I mean I saw it as a crazy deal I thought it was nice so let’s start breaking this thing down and just seeing how good of a kid this is for your money. I do like their kits because they do have some really good deals on aquariums my 36 gallon is a top 10 kit and that’s been serving me well.
So you can just remove this thing holding this top piece of cardboard on I am going to try and not damage this as much as possible because I need to put it back together. The kit that came with the tank the filter and the lighting so it can’t be anything crazy but this uh filter itself does retail for almost the entire price of the tank that I got it for even though it is you know just random cheap plastic.
So we will see how this thing looks I am pretty sure it is just the same as all the other pf filter models, but it’s a pretty small filter and all you can see right here is that it comes with some accessories right here see it’s got this 3m tape right here which is a little buffer. So you can hold the filter off the tank and then this is the inlet for the filter and then the filter itself comes in this bag. It is just a simple filter set up they didn’t try and do anything crazy in here they tried to keep the cost low because a top fin does make some cheap.
How to Setup Top Fin in the Filter
It at all um honestly I don’t I mean I still do use activated carbon um which is widely disputed but I find that it helps pull excess nutrients out of the water. Biological filtration is really what you’re striving for here and honestly a filter in a planted tank is just to provide water movement to the plants. You will do pretty much all the other filtration, so this little buoy thing kind of turns up and down the flow in case you want to do it better in this setup.
I will say that the inlet right here I would recommend probably putting a sponge over to something like that you know just so that small fish can’t get their fins caught in here. So this is what the filter looks like fully assembled with the intake on.
It does have this thing so you can make it go a little longer this could be a thread okay um with the length that this intake can go down this could probably work for a 10 gallon.
